Derryle and I were good friends between the 6th grad and 10th grade and eventually took up with other friends although we stayed in touch since we lived only a few blocks apart. I remember Derryle's favorite singer was Johnny Cash and he got a new record and we listened to "I Walked The Line" a dozen times. We were both fascinated with his ability to take his voice lower and lower as he went along.  Derryle and I played a lot of baseball with the neighboring kids and I have a picture of him in his pitching stance but it may be years before I find it. Also during those years people were still talking about the Texarkana Phantom Killer and we talked about that a bit too much since I went over to his house early one morning and he was still in bed and when he threw back the covers, there layed a 22 rifle. I laughed but I didn't have one or I would have had one under my covers too.........After High School, Derryle joined the Army and was stationed at Ft. Monouth, NJ.
Derryle's Mother was Nina Pickard and his Father was Neeolen (Hoss) Pickard. Derryle's Sisters were Sharon Pickard Stevens b. 1953; and Janet Pickard Crowell b. 1960. Derryle married Pat Morris in 1962 and they were blessed with 2 girls: Teresa born in 1963 and Paula born in 1964. Derryle was discharged from the Army in 1968 and later graduated from the University of Lowell in Lowell, Mass. Derryle instilled his quest for knowledge in his daughters. He enjoyed teaching them things and sharing his insight with them even when they were very young. The most important person in Derryle's life was was Jesus Christ which can be seen in the letters he wrote below. Click on the thumbnail pix to see a larger more readable version in a new window.
