    JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL, TEXARKANA, ARKANSAS     MAY 26, 1939


Above are pictured members of the cast of "Gaieties of 1939" who have leading roles in the music revue to be presented at the Arkansas Junior High School Auditorium during the activity period, 10:30 - 11 am Friday April 14. The revue is sponsered by the 9-2 class of Junior High and directed by Miss Lota Brewer and Mrs. W.W. Threlkeld. From L-R: Thelma Partlow, John B.     Winning a high majority vote over a score of candidates, George Poulos was elected to the office of President of the Student Council in the recent school election. Betty Sherman received the second highest vote and was named Vice President while Thula Dean Osborne placed third and won office of student hostess.
    George is the son of Mr. & Mrs. James Poulos of 1802 County Avenue and is a member of the 9-2 class. He is president of the Latin Club and member of the school band and a leader in school activities.
    Betty is the daughter of Mr & Mrs Stratts Sherman, 2106 County Avenue and is a member of the 9-2 class and rates high in scholarship and citizenship.
    Thula Dean is the daughter of Me & Mrs C.W. Osborne and is an outstanding student and leader in school activities.

These Classes have been combined to make the largest AHS Graduating class ever, but only a few of the grads started in grammer school together. Only Earl Oxford remains of the first grade class of Fairview in January 1930. In that same year Georgia Daily and Lloyd Wilson started at College Hill.

 Class is Entertained

Grady Jo Cochran and Carolyn Clay entertained members at the Fairview graduating class on the lawn of the Clay home, 1700 Grand avenue Friday afternoon, immediately following the commencement exercise.

The color scheme of the Arkansas schools, red and white, was used in the decorations favors and cakes were white with red lettering "Fairview Class of 1936".

Favors of Eversharp pencils were given to each guest. Miss Alice Watson, home room teacher, was a caller and also received a lovely gift.

Thirteen students in the graduating class have made n perfect attendance record for a period of nine months, having been neither absent nor tardy during the nine-one and nine-two semester. These are:
June Wright, Carl Ragsdale, George Poulos, Theron Roberts, Roy Rumsey, Aileen Skiles, Jessie Yarberry, Paul Deaton, Nadine King, Margaret Goss, Coye McBeth, Christine Lewis and Venitia McMasters

Joint Baccalaureate Service
 will be held for city graduates

    At the Paramount theater on Sunday night, May 28, students of Junior and Senior High school graduating classes of both Texas and Arkansas schools of the city will attend the baccalaureate services.
    This is the first of a series of programs to be held this week, which merits the graduation of all grades and high schools of the city.
    Parents and citizens are urged to attend these programs which will be given at the various schools

 

 

 

GIFT NAMED

As a gift to the school, the graduating class will make the first payment on a picture show machine which will be selected in the fall. The following 8-2 and 9-1 classes will continue to make payments next year
