Razorbacks deserve praise

Band Royalty honored tonight

by LaTonya Ofster

To be chosen as Band Royalty requires more than beauty. "I look for someone who shows leadership and has a love for band," said junior Jennifer McClory. Senior Gary Vines said; "I go by how considerate they are and if they are active in band."
"I .look (or a girl that is very nice. It's also nice for the girls to ask the boys out and all we have to say ,is yes or no," said sophomore Reginald Walker. Junior Mark Carthron said, "I look for someone who is nice, 'kind and friendly to everyone."
This year band members chose 11 girls to represent them on Band Royalty and to be honored during today’s special observance on Band Day. Band queen will be announced tonight at the AHS-Benton game.

Sophomore maids are Stacie Barker, Andrea Martin, Jamie Gilbert and Kendra Hampton; Juniors are Hilary Ward, Natasha Hawkins and Felisha Brown; senior Keicha Fortson, Denise McFerrin, Staci Corbell and LaCresha Pree.
"I've never been on the Band  Royalty before, and when they called my name I was astonished," said McFerrin. Even though I was a Band it Royalty maid the past two years, I was very surprised to be picked this year, considering that there are so many people here that I don't know and don't know me very well," said Hampton.  Being a member of band royalty can cost a lot of money.
"I'll spend a little over $200,"  said Brown. "I was happy when they called my name but even e happier when they called Natasha's name. I just wish 1 were a senior so I would have a chance of being queen."
Barker said, "I already have a semiformal that I'm going to wear. My mom made it for me last spring. I haven't found a  dress for the pep rally yet."
"I felt very privileged to be chosen as maid. There are many girls who deserve to be a maid.  It's also exciting to know you have a chance for queen.  Best of  luck to all of the senior maids” said Pree.
"I like having band royalty because we (the band) are treated as an organization and not as a  club," said McFerrin, who is this year's drum major.

The football team should be commended on their record and sportsmanship.

The varsity and J-V football teams have put forth their best effort in each game that they have played. Their record proves it. Not only do we have a good team this year, but I feel confident that AHS will be in good hands next year when the J-V players move up to varsity.

The strength on the team comes not only from the "seniors" who pull the weight; there are juniors who play for varsity that hang tough with the upper classmen.

Behind every good team there are some good coaches. The teams can’t db it by themselves. They have to have some guidance and outside leadership. Coach Toombs and his excellent coaching staff have put in a lot of hard work and outside time to make this year's season a great success.  I’d like to say rto all the coaches and to each team, “give it your

best shot because after all, they can't touch this!" GO HOGS GO!
